Before and After Photography - Photoshop Magic

So why does photography cost so much you ask? I used to ask this too. Then I became a photographer and now I know. There are lots of answers to this question, but I'm going to focus today on one reason: photoshop magic.

So, let me start by saying that photoshop can indeed perform magic. But as with anything, you only get out of it what you put into it. For every miraculous transformation you see on Pinterest, some photographer has poured hours of their life into that single image.

Occasionally, I try to create a whole new reality. Like this:

But most often, I just make a myriad of very small changes. Each little tweak may not be noticeable by itself, but together they subtly show the child in his most hansom light.

Sometimes it's about making colors really pop. A subtle adjustment of the contrast in a photo can bring the 2D image to life.

While all babies are perfect, many new babies have acne and most have some red splotches. With a little time and attention, I smooth those over so the picture focus on their real features.

My baby photo prop addiction is no secret. I have a studio cram packed full of wraps, props, bows, outfits, baskets, and blankets, But sometimes in a session I still find I don't have exactly the color combination I need for the mood of the set. Photoshop to the rescue.

Other times there just isn't enough of the backdrop to go around...so I make a bit more.

And sometimes, it's just for fun. Photography is my passion and sometimes I just let my creative juices flow. For no good reason I just wanted the wood to be darker and fabric to be smoother.
